Edmonton EV Charger Estimator · Master Electrician #13824
What does an EV charger really cost to install?
Most calculators quote you one cheap plug price, then the number jumps once someone is standing at your panel. That is not how we work. Answer a few questions and we will show you three things. The difference is real, so we will not hide it.

Question 1 of 4
How fast do you want to charge?
Not sure? Pick the middle. We confirm the right speed for your car on site.
Question 2 of 4
What size is your electrical service?
Look at the big main breaker at the top of your panel. Still unsure? Choose the last option and we sort it out.
How do I read my panel?
Open your electrical panel door. The single largest breaker, usually at the very top, has a number stamped on its switch: 100, 125, or 200. That number is your service size in amps. If you cannot find it or it is not labeled, just pick "I am not sure" and we will confirm it on site at no charge.
Question 3 of 4
Which of these do you already have?
Tap every one that is in your home today. These are the big power users that share your panel with a car charger.
Question 4 of 4
How far is the charger from your panel?
A rough guess is fine. The wire run is the one thing we can only lock exactly after we measure on site, so we price it as a range.

Add load management and skip the panel upgrade
Your panel is tight once the car is added. You have two ways forward. Flip this to see the load managed path, the one that usually saves you thousands.
$3,500 to $6,000 Load management
the cheaper path
Flip the switch to see how load management works and what it costs.
Your honest ballpark
Here is the straight comparison
Every number below includes GST and the permit on our license. These are ballpark ranges. The one unknown is the exact wire run, which we lock after measuring on site. No surprises.
Load manager included: RVE DCC-12
This is the second system that lets a full speed charger live safely on your service. It is a visible line, not buried in margin. It replaces a $3,500 to $6,000 service upgrade.

The honest homework
Everything the cheap quote does not tell you
Where does your home stand?
Your panel can only carry so much at once. A 200A service has room to spare. A 100A service is often nearly full once the AC, dryer, and heat run together. Adding a car charger to a full panel is the whole question.
home today car charger headroom
Plug in or hardwired?
A plug in charger on a cord is capped at 40A, about 9.6 kW. Hardwiring the same charger gets you the full 48A, about 11 kW, and gives you a cleaner permanent install. The tradeoff is real, so here it is side by side.
For roughly a hundred dollars more than plug in, you get full charging speed and the cleaner install.
What is load management, and why it saves you money
When your panel is tight, most companies sell you a service upgrade.
The usual answer
$3,500 to $6,000
service upgrade
That is the typical number when the car is the reason.
Across all panel work the full range is $2,200 to $6,500 and up.
There is a cheaper way
Keep 100A
a load manager instead
A load manager watches your whole panel and pauses the car only, never your heat pump or AC, whenever the house needs the power.
The car simply finishes charging a bit later.
You keep your 100A service and skip the upgrade.
Why wire run changes the price
The further your charger sits from the panel, the more copper and labour it takes to reach it. That is the honest reason a quote moves. We give you short, medium, and long bands up front, then lock the exact number the moment we measure on site.
