What does an electrician cost in Edmonton? Two rates, and I will say both out loud
$180 for a residential service call. $120 per service call if you manage property. Those are the only two flat numbers I have, and you get them before anybody drives anywhere. Everything past a service call gets quoted after the site is seen, because a number typed into a web page by somebody who has not looked at your panel is not a price. It is a hook. This page tells you what actually moves an electrical quote up or down, and why I am usually not the cheapest number you will collect.
The two numbers
Both rates, on the page, before you call
Most electrical websites in this city will not tell you a service call rate. I do not know why. It is the first thing everybody wants to know and hiding it just wastes a phone call for both of us.
That is the whole flat rate card. There is no third tier, no membership, no diagnostic fee stacked on top of the service call, and no fuel surcharge appearing at the bottom of the invoice.
Where the service call stops
What the call buys, and what it does not
A service call is a visit with a diagnosis and a small fix in it. It is not a licence to do unlimited work for a flat fee, and any shop that implies otherwise is going to find a way to charge you later.
Inside the service call
- The drive outEdmonton and the immediate area, not billed on top
- The diagnosismeters on it, the fault found, not guessed
- A small fix on the spotdevice swap, re termination, reset, breaker
- The straight answerwhat it is, why, and what happens if you leave it
- Several small items in one visitsend the list, it beats booking one at a time
Quoted separately, told to you first
- A new circuit or a new feeddepends on the run, the access, the panel
- Panel or service upgradepermit, load calculation, its own job
- Fixtures and equipmentmaterial is material, listed on the invoice
- After hours attendancesaid on the phone, never found afterward
- A long drive out of the areaagreed before anybody commits
The price decoder
What actually drives your number
Tap what is true about your job. This will not give you a dollar total, because I will not invent one. It tells you which rate lane you are in and which specific things on your job push the price up or hold it down. Three of them save you money and most people do not know it.
Who is asking
What kind of work
Tick anything that is true (optional)
Nothing you tap here is sent anywhere. It runs in your phone.
The uncomfortable part
I am usually not the cheapest quote you get
I am not going to pretend otherwise, and I am not going to explain it with the word quality and leave it there. Here is exactly where the difference in the number goes.
A Master Electrician is on your job, not just on the letterhead
Master Electrician #13824, fourteen years on the tools. Kyle is co owner and a Journeyman with twenty years on the tools. The cheap quote often comes from a shop where the licence holder is in an office and somebody much greener is in your basement. That is legal. It is also why the cheap quote is cheap.
No subcontractors
Five person crew, all Raydn. Subbing out is the standard way to make a number smaller, and it is also how you end up with nobody accountable when something fails eighteen months later. My name is on the permit either way, so I would rather my own people did it.
Permits pulled, inspections passed
Work that needs a permit gets one. That costs money and it takes time. Skipping it is the single biggest way to make a quote look better, and it lands on you at resale or at an insurance claim, not on the shop that skipped it.
The panel gets labelled and the work gets photographed
A printed circuit directory, cables dressed, photos of what was found and what was done. None of that is required. All of it is why the next call at your house is faster and cheaper, including if the next call goes to somebody else.
You get told the thing you did not want to hear
If the panel is the real problem, I say so instead of taking three service calls off you first. If the appliance is the problem, I say it is the appliance instead of selling you electrical work. That costs me money in the short run and it is the actual product.
Read the low quote properly
Where a cheaper number usually comes from
Sometimes a low quote is just a shop that is hungry, and that is fine. But there are five specific places the money usually got taken out, and you can check every one of them yourself before you sign anything.
Is there a permit in the price?
Ask directly, and ask whose licence it goes under. If the answer is that you do not need one for this, get the reason. Permit dodging is the number one way a quote gets smaller and the one that follows you at resale.
Who is physically doing the work?
Not who owns the company. Who is in the truck. Ask whether it is an employee or a subcontractor, and ask what ticket they hold. A perfectly legal answer can still be a much greener person than the quote implies.
Is the material named, or just called material?
Panels, breakers, devices and fixtures vary in price for real reasons. A quote that will not name what is going in has left itself room to put in whatever is cheapest that week.
What is explicitly excluded?
Drywall repair, disposal, the drive, after hours, a second visit for inspection. The low quote and the high quote are often the same number once the exclusions are read side by side.
Did anybody actually look at the panel?
If a price arrived without a person opening your panel, it is a guess dressed as a quote, and it will move once the work starts. That is not always dishonest. It is always a number that can change.
And sometimes the cheap one is the right one
If it is a small like for like swap and the shop is licensed and insured, take the cheaper number. I am not going to tell you to overpay for a receptacle to prove a point about premium.
Why there is no price list on this page
I could put fifty numbers here. They would all be lies.
Every competitor page you will read on this topic has a table. Outlet replacement, this much. Panel upgrade, that much. It reads authoritative and it is invented, because the same job in two houses on the same street is not the same job.
One receptacle, house A
- Open basement, panel two metres awayreachable, room in the panel
- Modern wiring with a groundnothing to work around
- Twenty minutes and a deviceinside a service call
One receptacle, house B
- Finished ceiling, panel across the housethe wire has to get there somehow
- 1968 wiring, no ground at the boxthat changes what is allowed
- Panel is fullnow you are talking about the panel
Same request. Same street. Not the same price, and no table on earth can tell you which one you live in. What I will do instead is tell you which lane you are in on the phone, for free, and be honest if a service call is not worth it for what you are describing.
Who is quoting you
The person who prices it is the person who does it
I am Dmitry Naboka. Master Electrician #13824, fourteen years on the tools, and Raydn is mine. There is no commissioned salesperson between you and the number, which is the main reason the number does not need padding in it.
I would rather lose a job on price than win it by leaving the permit out of the quote. One of those costs me a day. The other one lands on the customer years later, and it lands with my licence number on the paperwork.

What people ask me about price
How much does an electrician cost in Edmonton?
At Raydn there are two flat rates. $180 for a residential service call and $120 per service call for property management. Both cover the drive, the diagnosis and a small fix on the spot. Work beyond a service call is quoted after the site is seen, because the run, the access and whether the panel has room decide the number and none of those can be assessed from a form.
Do you charge a separate diagnostic or callout fee?
No. The service call is the whole flat number. There is no diagnostic fee stacked on top, no fuel surcharge, no membership, and the drive inside Edmonton and the immediate area is included.
Why will you not just give me a price over the phone?
I will give you the service call rate over the phone, and I will tell you which lane your job is in. What I will not do is firm up a job price without seeing the panel and the route the wire has to take, because that number would move once work started. A quote that changes is worse than no quote.
What makes one electrical quote higher than another?
Usually five things. Whether a permit is in the price, who is physically doing the work and what ticket they hold, whether the material is named or vague, what is excluded, and whether anybody actually opened the panel before quoting. Read those five and most price gaps explain themselves.
Is it cheaper to book several small jobs together?
Yes, and it is the easiest saving available to you. The service call covers a visit, so a list of small items in one trip beats booking them one at a time. Send the whole list when you book.
Does a permit add much to the cost?
It adds a real amount and it is not padding. New circuits, panel work and service changes need one and I pull it under Master Electrician licence #13824. Leaving it out is the fastest way to make a quote look cheaper, and it becomes your problem at resale or on an insurance claim rather than the installer's.
Do you price match a cheaper quote?
No. I will read the other quote with you and tell you honestly where the difference is, and sometimes the honest answer is that theirs is the right one for a small like for like job. What I will not do is take the permit or the labelling out of mine to match a number.
Do you charge more for evenings or weekends?
After hours and emergency attendance is priced differently from a booked service call, and it gets said on the phone before anybody drives. You will not find out about it on the invoice.
What if the job turns out bigger once you are here?
You get told at the visit, with the reason and usually a photo, before anything else happens. Nothing beyond the service call gets done without your yes on the price first.
Is the quote flat or hourly?
Flat. You get the number before I start, not after. If something behind the wall changes the job, you hear it from me at the visit with the reason, before the work is done. You do not find out on the invoice. The only posted hourly style numbers on this page are the two service call rates, $180 residential and $120 for property management, and both of them are said out loud before anybody drives.
When is the cheapest time to do electrical work?
While the walls are open. If a reno or a basement development is framed and not boarded yet, that is as cheap as that wiring will ever be, because nobody is paying me to fish a cable through finished drywall or to patch behind myself. The second cheapest time is batching several small items into one visit, so one call out covers all of them instead of one each.
