Electrical repairs in Edmonton. $180 for the service call, and you know that before I get in the truck
Breaker that keeps tripping. Outlet that went dead. Lights that flicker every time the furnace kicks on. A GFCI that will not reset no matter how many times you press it. I do this work, I book it the same week, and the residential service call is $180. That is the drive, the diagnosis, and the fix if it is a small one. If it is bigger than that, you hear it from me on the spot with the reason, not on an invoice afterward.

Tap what it is doing. I will tell you what it usually is.
This is not a quote and it is not a diagnosis over the internet. It is what I actually find most often for each of these, what I check first, and whether it normally stays a $180 service call or turns into something bigger. Knowing which one you are in before you call is worth something.
Pick one above. You can change it as many times as you like.
Nothing you tap here is sent anywhere. It runs in your phone.
The number, up front
$180 residential service call
One figure, said out loud before anybody drives anywhere. Here is exactly what it buys and where it stops.
What the $180 covers
- The drive outnot billed separately inside Edmonton and the immediate area
- The diagnosisfinding it, not guessing at it
- A small fix on the spotdevice swap, re termination, reset, breaker
- A straight answerwhat it is, why, and what happens if you leave it
What it does not cover
- A new circuitpriced on its own, told to you before I start
- A panel or service upgradeseparate job, permit, load calculation
- Fixtures and equipment you want suppliedmaterial is material
- Work that needs a permitquoted properly, not squeezed into a visit
If you manage rentals or a portfolio the rate is different. That lane is $120 per service call for property management

The actual list
What I get called out for
In the customer's words, not trade words. If what you have is on this list, you are in the right place.
- Breaker keeps tripping or will not stay in
- Dead outlet, dead plug, half a room out
- Lights flickering or going dim when something starts
- GFCI will not reset in a bathroom, kitchen or outside
- Replace an outlet or a receptacle that is loose or scorched
- Switch or dimmer buzzing, hot, or stopped working
- Change a light fixture, add pot lights, hang a ceiling fan
- Under cabinet or kitchen lighting that quit
- Doorbell with no chime, or a chime that never stops
- Smoke alarms chirping or going off for no reason
- Dryer plug or stove receptacle running hot
- Thermostat wiring for a new furnace or heater
- Garage heater feed that quit or was never right
- Hot tub or pool wiring, bonding, or a disconnect in the wrong place
- Old fuse panel that keeps blowing fuses
- Something is wrong and I cannot find it
Appliances themselves are a different trade. I do the circuit, the receptacle and the feed. If the machine is the problem I will tell you it is the machine instead of selling you electrical work. There is a full breakdown of that boundary on the appliance side

Three things that mean shut it off now
Most electrical faults will wait until tomorrow. These three will not, and none of them are worth being polite about.
You can smell burning plastic, or the panel cover is warm
Heat in a panel means current is crossing a bad connection. Turn off what you can at the breaker, do not keep resetting it, and call. Resetting a breaker onto a hot connection is how a warm panel becomes a fire.
A breaker trips again the instant you reset it
That is a hard fault, not an overload. An overload takes a moment to trip. Something touching something it should not be touching trips instantly. Leave it off.
You felt a tingle off an appliance, a tap, or a metal box
That is a bonding or grounding problem and it does not fix itself. Stop using the thing, and get it looked at before somebody wet and barefoot finds it.
If it is out of hours and it is one of those three
Call rather than fill in a form. Emergency work is priced differently from a booked service call and I will say so on the phone, not afterward. Emergency electrician
The honest boundary
When a repair is not a repair
There is a point where patching one more circuit is throwing money at a panel that has already told you what it is. I would rather say that at the visit than take three service calls off you first.
You are on your third or fourth call for different circuits
One failing device is a repair. A pattern across the house is usually the vintage of the wiring or the terminations, and it will keep going. At that point a plan beats another patch.
The panel is full and there is nowhere to land a new circuit
Tandem breakers and creative interpretations of what a bus will accept are how panels get dangerous. If there is no room, the answer is room, not another shortcut.
You are still on a fuse panel and it keeps blowing fuses
Fuses blow because the circuit is carrying more than it was built for. Putting a bigger fuse in is the wrong fix, and it is a common one. This is a service upgrade conversation.
There is heat damage inside the panel itself
Discoloured bus, cooked breaker terminals, melted insulation at the lugs. You do not repair around that. I will show you the photo and tell you what it costs to do properly.
You are adding real load and the service cannot carry it
A hot tub, a garage heater, an EV charger, a suite. Those need a load calculation against your existing service, not optimism. If the number does not work, I say so before you buy the thing.

Who turns up
A Master Electrician, not a sales rep with a tablet
I am Dmitry Naboka. Master Electrician #13824, fourteen years on the tools. Kyle is co owner and a Journeyman with twenty years on the tools. Five person crew, no subcontractors, and my name goes on the permit. That is not marketing, it is just who is standing in your basement.
Most of what I get called out to was described wrong on the phone, and that is fine. The symptom shows up in a different room from the fault. Finding it is the job.

What people ask me before they book
How much is an electrical service call in Edmonton?
Mine is $180 for a residential service call. That covers the drive, the diagnosis, and the fix if it is a small one such as a device swap, a re termination or a breaker. If it turns out to need a new circuit or a panel change, that is priced separately and I tell you at the visit before doing any of it. If you manage rental property the rate is $120 per service call.
Can you tell me what is wrong over the phone?
I can tell you what it usually is, which is what the decoder on this page does. I cannot tell you what yours is without meters on it. Anybody who diagnoses your house over the phone is guessing, and if they guess wrong you pay for the wrong fix.
How fast can you come out?
Repairs normally get booked into the same week. If you have a burning smell, a breaker that trips the instant it is reset, or you felt a tingle off something metal, call rather than fill in a form. Out of hours work is priced differently and I say so on the phone.
My breaker keeps tripping. Do I need a new panel?
Usually not. One breaker tripping repeatedly is normally an overloaded circuit, a fault on that circuit, or a worn breaker, and all three are service call territory. A new panel becomes the answer when the panel is full, when there is heat damage inside it, or when you are adding load the service cannot carry.
Do I need a permit for a small repair?
Replacing a failed device like for like generally does not. New circuits, panel work and service changes do, and I pull them under my own licence. I will tell you which side of that line your job falls on at the visit rather than after.
Will you fix my appliance?
No. I do the circuit, the receptacle, the feed and the connection. If the machine itself is the problem I tell you it is the machine instead of selling you electrical work you do not need.
Do you charge extra for coming out of town?
Edmonton and the immediate area, the drive is inside the service call. Further out gets discussed on the phone before anybody commits, because it is not fair to either of us to find out afterward.
Do you replace outlets and switches, or is that too small a job?
That is normal work and it is what the service call is for. If you have a list of small items in one visit, say so on the form. It is far better use of the $180 than booking one thing at a time.
Is this an emergency service, or do I book it?
Both, and the difference matters. A burning smell, visible arcing or a panel that is hot to the touch goes to the front of the day. If something is sparking or smoking right now, shut the breaker off first and then call. A dead outlet, a light that flickers or a breaker that trips once a week is a booked $180 service call, and it does not need to cost you emergency money. Same day and after hours attendance is on the emergency electrician page.
