Can your panel actually handle a charger?
This is the first question, and the honest answer is: it has to be checked, not assumed. A lot of older Edmonton homes look full on paper.
Try it on your own house
Tap your service size, tap what runs on electricity, tap the charger you want. The verdict updates as you go.
Add load management, about $995 to $1,395 installed
An illustration of how the math moves, not a load calculation. I do the real one myself, on your panel, before quoting.
Why not just cram a breaker in and hope?
The real calculation follows Canadian Electrical Code section 8. Older 100 amp homes are the ones that surprise people, once the range, dryer, and furnace get added up.
And the failure is not a tripped breaker on day one. It is a service that sits overloaded for years. Nuisance trips in January, cooked lugs, an insurance problem nobody found until something burned. The calculation costs me an hour. Guessing costs you a panel.
