What "payback" really means
Payback is the year your cumulative electricity savings equal what the system cost. After that year, the power is effectively free for the rest of the system's life. On a 25-year warranty, a 10-year payback means 15+ years of near-free electricity.
I get asked "what's the payback?" more than any other question, and the honest answer is: it depends on your roof and your bill, not on a slogan. But the range is real and I will not dress it up.

Pay cash, on a simple south-facing roof with a healthy power bill.
Finance it, on a small, steep, or shaded roof.
Both ends still beat the panels' lifespan comfortably.
